The Loner
BoyI think that the boy is very lonely and timid. He leans against the playground wall, and just watches other children play but never joins them. His back is against the wall so he seems to be very wary and alert of his surroundings and this might mean that he is defending himself from other children. The statement “Back against the wall he stays and never plays” tells me that he does not leave his supporter, the wall, to play with the other children, meaning that he is very antisocial. “His loneliness is his shell and shield” causing the no one to want to befriend him thus making him even lonelier and the boy “smacks his hands against the bricks and other boredom-beating tricks” so he is very bored as he leans against the wall. Clearly, the boy is a very antisocial person with no clique or friends except the wall and he is often lonely and sad since he does not join the children but it is obvious he came to the playground everyday to watch the other children play since he does nothing at the playground.
